Burnley is set to return to the Premier League next season after clinching the Championship title. Manager Vincent Kompany expressed that this was an ideal time to win the title, considering the strength of the Championship in the upcoming 2023/24 season. Burnley has one game left in their impressive season and will reach an impressive 101 points if they defeat Cardiff. Kompany is excited about returning to the Premier League but wants to remember the achievements of this season.
Kompany said, “In all fairness, it’s a good year to get out of the Championship if you see what might be coming down next year and what might be going up from League One. The Championship was already tough this season because of the number of teams with Premier League experience that we faced. I understand how big it was for us to do it, but now it’s time to focus on the magnitude of the next challenge.”
He added, “I think now 90% of our time is concerned towards that, outside of normally preparing the games like we always do. Everything else goes towards the future and the magnitude of that challenge, even though we’ve made memories and no one can take this away. We’ve had a fantastic journey; I don’t want to spoil any of it because I’m thinking about what happens in 12 months.”
